OnBikes: Read to Ride!

The Greater Pensacola Chamber’s LeaP Class of 2020 has partnered with OnBikes Pensacola for one of their two class projects called, Read to Ride!

 

This is an amazing opportunity for OnBikes, LeaP 2020, and O.J. Semmes Elementary School. This project will establish a reading incentive program for all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders at OJ Semmes with the opportunity to earn their very own brand new bike, helmet, & lock.

 

As part of Read to Ride, the LeaP Class of 2020 will work with the Escambia County School District to create an incentive program for students to read throughout the 2019-20 school year. Each classes’ collective progress towards their individual reading goals (ex. read "x" number of books through the school’s Accelerated Reader program) will be tallied and tracked over the course of the year. The Leap Class of 2020 will set up reading days with the school where groups of class members can go and read to a class at the elementary school. At the end of the school year LeaP 2020 will assemble and giveaway over 200+ bikes to all the students in the Read to Ride! program.

 

We see this as a great tool to help a school that is struggling with reading and also help give students a great way to enjoy being outside and staying healthy. Education and long term health through exercise are great ways LeaP 2020 can encourage a brighter future for the greater Pensacola area.

 

OnBikes Pensacola is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission to provide every at needs child with a brand-new bike, helmet, and lock to call their own. LeaP 2020 is excited to partner with OnBike’s 100% volunteer board (with 7 of its 12 board members being LeaP alumni)!
